Stanley Levels

So far my collection of Stanley levels have been confined to the small metallic levels such as the No. 31, 41, machinist levels ( No. 38-1/2), the No. 36 metallic level, and finally the brass bound No. 95 and 96 levels. I have verified and extended a type study of the Stanley No. 41 Pocket Level previous given by Alvin Sellens in the March 1999 issue of the SWTCA Newsletter. As such the my observations on other levels in limited to that given by Walter. Type studies of Stanley levels of interest to my include:
  • Stanley No 36 Adjustable Metallic Plumb & Level
  • Stanley No 39-1/2 Machinist's Level
  • Stanley No. 41 Pocket Level
  • Stanley No 95 Carpenter's Adjustable Plumb & Level
  • Stanley No 96 Carpenter's Adjustable Plumb & Level

Restored Southington Tool Co. Level

The levels I have in my tool collection are very limited. I have restored a $5 "UnMarked/Unknow Maker" level shown below:
The level was covered by a uniform thick coat of surface rust. This level was restored via the electrolyis technique and the maker mark ( as shown below ) suddenly appeared. The restored Southington Tool Co. Adjustable Metallic Plumb & Level is shown below:
